The trailhead is located at the entrance to the Cobb Estate, a park in Altadena. The trail winds its way up nearly three miles to Echo Mountain, to which the old Mount Lowe Railway once ran.
The Castle Canyon trail starts up from Echo Mountain, ascending another 2.2 miles to Inspiration Point.
